CORAL SPRINGS, FL – As part of the plans to build an Everglades Memorial Loop in western Coral Springs, city officials are looking to improve Royal Palm Boulevard to accommodate the loop’s walkers, runners, and bicyclists.
Last week, city commissioners put their support behind applying for $2.2 million through Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization for the street project.
The 10.2-mile loop that would connect Coral Springs streets to the Everglades Conservation Levee includes a pedestrian bridge across the Sawgrass Expressway at the end of Wiles Road, and an overlook area on Sportsplex Drive complete with a restaurant.

The loop would stretch from Sawgrass Trailhead on West Atlantic Boulevard in the south to Coral Ridge Drive in the east to Wiles Road in the north and Conversation Levee Greenway in the west.
Officials estimate it would cost $13.5 million to build the loop, including the stretch along Royal Palm Boulevard, from Sportsplex Drive to Coral Ridge Drive, that the $2.2 funding, supported by the commission and if approved, would go toward.
The Royal Palm Mobility Project, as it is known, would pay for, according to a city memo:
• Replacing existing asphalt sidewalk sections along the south side of the roadway with new 8’-10’ concrete multiuse path/shared use path/sidewalk.
• Adding shelters, benches, bike racks, and trash receptacles.
• Possible covering drainage, curb, and gutter improvements in the area.
• Removing trees between the existing roadway and existing sidewalk to accommodate “buffered” bike lanes.
According to the memo, this project “is to accommodate a buffered multiuse path by utilizing the swale areas rather than narrowing medians and the potential loss of trees.”
If approved, the project would be added to a state five-year work plan in the coming years.
And if chosen for funding, local funds for “construction contingency” and other services would not be required until fiscal year 2030 when grant funding becomes available and estimated to be $519,965, according to the memo.

A "Pocha" is a Korean-style izakaya, a type of Japanese tavern known for its casual atmosphere and variety of dishes that pair well with alcoholic drinks. THE NAMU's Pocha Room is a speakeasy with a dedicated izakaya menu decorated with posters of K-pop stars and other Korean ephemera. It's a cozy, intimate space where guests can enjoy a different side of Korean and Japanese cuisines.

Completed in 2021, the Pocha room was initially reserved for catering and special functions. However, the Seos have decided to open this intimate space to the public, offering a specialized menu that pairs perfectly with a curated selection of alcoholic beverages.

While THE NAMU's main menu covers a wide range of popular Korean dishes, including a dozen excellent ramen soups featuring Japanese-style and Korean-style broths, the Pocha Room offers a culinary journey through Korean and Japanese cuisines.
The selection of "bites" includes Spicy Gochujang Mayo Kani (Surimi Krab) Salad, Roasted Sesame Bangbang Shrimp, Fried Shrimp Spring Rolls, Fried Clam Chowder Croquettes, Fried Ebiyaki (Shrimp) Balls, Fried Potato String Shrimp, Fried Kimchi Dumplings, Grilled Chashu Pork Kimchi, and Sweet and Spicy Dried Squid Muchim.

The drink menu features a selection of beers for $4, including Japanese brands like Sapporo, Ichiban, and Asahi, Domestic options like Yuengling, Bud Light, Coors Light, and Budweiser, and Imports like Corona, Heineken, Stella, Lucky Buddha, and Tsingtao. Local craft beers are available for $5, including Hop Gun, Floridian, Jai Alai, and Fat Tire.
The Perfect Pairing: Soju and Makgeolli
Soju is a clear Korean spirit made from grains or starches, often compared to vodka but with a smoother finish. Makgeolli is a traditional Korean rice wine that's slightly sweet, tangy, and effervescent.

The money will go to Coral Springs Community Chest, a nonprofit founded in 1988 on the premise that “community resources should provide for community needs,” organizers said.
Ninety-eight percent of the funds raised are reinvested back into the community, they said.
Over the years, Community Chest has funded more than $2 million to other nonprofits that provide services and programs benefiting Coral Springs residents.
And during the pandemic, with many residents needing extra assistance with food and payments for housing, utilities, and medical bills, Community Chest offered help directly to residents in need.
In 2021, Coral Springs City Commissioner Joy Carter had the idea to raise money for the Community Chest through a pickleball tournament, and approached the agency’s board of trustees.
Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in the country, and many signed up to play in the tournament, organizers said.
This year, the event is back, and organizers hope, through sponsors, player registration, and raffle tickets on the day, they will bring in even more funds to help many more people.
Players can register for one of the following brackets:
•General (19-54 yrs): beginners/intermediate
•Seniors (55 yrs+): beginners/intermediate
•General (19-54 yrs): advanced intermediate/ advanced
•Seniors (55 yrs+): advanced intermediate/ advanced
Organizers say, if there’s enough players in various levels, the brackets may be expanded into six divisions - beginners, intermediate, and advanced in each age group.
Single players who do not have a partner may register and they will be paired with a partner.
The top three winning teams in all brackets will receive medals and gift card prizes.

Owned by the same Thai family for nearly four decades, the restaurant underwent its first transformation in 1995, rebranding as Bow Thai. In 2008, it relocated to the Waterway Shoppes, and just about ten years ago, it took on its current name, About Bangkok.
Annie Yosvilai, the current owner, has been steering the ship since the restaurant changed its name to About Bangkok.

Under her leadership, the restaurant has become a popular destination for both Thai and Sushi lovers in Coral Springs. Her dedication to maintaining the authenticity of Thai flavors while incorporating a sushi menu has made About Bangkok a beloved spot for food enthusiasts.
However, all good things must come to an end. Yosvilai has decided it's time for a break from the restaurant business, she told TAPinto.
She has sold About Bangkok to new owners, who also own another restaurant in West Palm Beach. The restaurant will have its last service on September 30, marking the end of an era for this culinary institution.
After closing its doors, the restaurant will undergo minor aesthetic changes and a cleanup. It will reopen sometime in October under a new name, which has yet to be disclosed. While the new owners are also of Thai descent, the restaurant will focus more on sushi.
For many in Coral Springs, the closure of About Bangkok is bittersweet.
While the community is sad to see a beloved restaurant change hands, there is also anticipation for what the new owners will bring. The legacy of About Bangkok and its preceding names will always be a part of Coral Springs' culinary history, a testament to the hard work and dedication of Yosvilai and her family.
