JUPITER, Fla. — A source close to the family is confirming the victim in in the Harbourside Place electrocution incident on Sunday was a man named Nate Davenport.
"We attended Jupiter High School together, played football, then went to Florida State," Scott Gorman said.
Gorman said he met Davenport when they were in middle school. He is the one pictured in the graduation photo with glasses.
Now in his 40s, Gorman and Davenport became fathers living in the Jupiter area.
"Over the years when our kids were taking swim lessons, it was actually at Nate's house in their pool," Gorman said.
He said Davenport was a veteran who flew planes for the U.S. Navy.
"He was one of the most caring, fun-loving, upbeat people that I've ever met in my life and I am going to miss him," Gorman said.
He posted images and information on Davenport on Facebook.
His longtime friend was the man who died Sunday after he was electrocuted trying to save his child from the fountains at Harbourside Place.
"They were in distress and I know he would do anything and everything in his power to make it stop, and unfortunately it cost him his life," Gorman said.
He said Davenport leaves behind four children, as well as his wife.
"If she ever needs anything, we'll all be there for her," Gorman said.
Gorman said his own children have played at the splash pads at Harbourside Place.
"Quite honestly, I think those fountains should be drained. It's quite the enticement to have a fountain right next to the splash pad and then say not to go in it," Gorman said. "If something wasn't properly inspected or whatever, if there's an issue, then somebody needs to be held accountable for it."
The investigation is ongoing but he said a service will be held for Davenport at Christ Fellowship Church.
"If you had some words for your friend Nate, what would you say to him?" WPTV reporter Joel Lopez asked.
"We've always loved you," Gorman said. "We always will love you."

JUPITER, Fla. —
The two boys who cried out for their dad for help while being shocked in a fountain were released from the hospital Wednesday, while the investigation into their father's electrocution continues.
When Nate Davenport took his three youngest children to play in the Harbourside Place splash pad Sunday afternoon, the lure of the water in the fountain apparently drew them closer.
Nate’s mother described what they told her from their hospital beds.
"They were in the water playing, and all of a sudden, they started feeling shocky, shocky, shocky, and their dad rushed in and grabbed them — think he physically picked them up," said Mary Davenport.

And while Nate was able to pull his shocked sons to safety, he was electrocuted -after possibly falling into the water — the call coming into fire rescue as a drowning.
"And yeah, he gave his life for his kids," said Mary Davenport.
The fountain, right next to the splash pad, warns, “no climbing.”

But attorney Spencer Kuvin says legally, that may not be enough.
“So there's a law in Florida, and it's a well-known legal doctrine called 'attractive nuisance.' And the attractive nuisance doctrine discusses the fact that a landowner must make its property safe if it has something on its property that may entice children to play," said Kuvin.
Kuvin says, for example, you should have a fence around your pool or trampoline so neighbor kids don’t sneak in and get hurt.
"Children generally are attracted to things that are exciting or fun for children. They're not going to sit by and read warning signs. That's why Florida law actually protects children," said Kuvin.
"I’ve seen people in there, yeah," said Andrew Schumacher, 17, speaking of the fountain.
He was there Sunday tossing a football with the Davenport kids, who they didn't know, when he and his friend both put a foot into the water and felt the electric current.
"It shocked his foot, and he was like, 'It shocked me,' and I said, 'No, it didn’t — how did it shock you?' and I put my foot in, and I felt a little tingle in my feet, and I pulled my foot out, and I didn't think anything of it at the time," said Schumacher.

But just 20 minutes later, Nate Davenport, his two sons and two others were rushed to trauma units. Nate didn’t make it.
"It's just tragic. I mean, you know, anyone that has children here in Palm Beach County should be concerned," said Kuvin.
In a statement, Harbourside Place said:
"We are heartbroken over this tragic and unexpected loss and continue to mourn with the rest of the Jupiter community. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the family during this challenging time."

A Jupiter man is recovering tonight after being attacked by a rabid otter.
The Florida Department of Health confirmed that the animal tested positive for rabies and has since been euthanized.

This is the first otter with rabies Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control has seen since 2010, and it certainly caused a lot of grief for people in Jupiter.
“I normally go out and feed ducks in the back. Ducks, geese, ibis,” Joseph Scaglione said.
Joseph Scaglione said last Wednesday morning he was just doing what he normally does, feeding the birds that gather outside of the gate surrounding his backyard, when suddenly they all took off.
“Looked up, no hawk, look back down, and there was a brown head sticking up over the bank of the pond. And at first, I didn't know it was an otter, but then I realized that's an otter,” Scaglione said.
Nine-year-old girl dies when palm tree falls on her
Scaglione said he started backing slowly towards his gate but, when he lifted his hand to close it, the otter quickly pounced, making him trip and fall over.
The otter bit him on his legs, hands, and arms 41 times.
“My pinky is the worst. I have two puncture wounds. I'm not sure if it goes right through or whatever. One is on the corner of where the cuticle was,” Scaglione said.

Scaglione said he eventually was able to toss the otter away and get to safety, but later that day, Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control said the otter crossed paths with a couple, their baby, and their dog in the same neighborhood and attacked the dog.
Then, some residents were able to capture the animal by covering it with a recycling bin.
“We captured the animal. We were able to secure it, get it here in our facility. From there, sample is collected then sent to the state laboratory in Jacksonville. Takes a couple days, so on Saturday, the results came back confirmed to be positive,” Capt. David Walesky, the assistant director of Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control, said.
As for Scaglione, he’s being treated for rabies, is relieved the otter is gone, and he’s already back doing what he loves to do.
“It's nice back out there. We, you know we really enjoy it. We have the ducks and the geese that come all the time. And we love them, and they know us, and it's a pleasant thing,” Scaglione said.
Walesky said that the otter likely got rabies from an infected raccoon.
He’s urging the public to be careful with feeding wildlife, especially raccoons, and make sure your animals are vaccinated.

JUPITER, Fla. — A plan to create 520 apartments in Jupiter was rejected Tuesday night by the Town Council, but a recently passed Florida law could revive the plan.
Senate Bill 102 also known as the "Live Local Act" adds $711 million worth of taxpayer funds into different programs to help people build and buy homes.
However, the bill also allows developers to build apartments if a certain percentage of the units have rents tied to the median income in a given area.
Corey Crowley, who is a developer, said the law allows a developer to change zoning requirements through an administrative process rather than a vote from elected officials.
However, he said this might take time because an entity could slow down the process by not having policies within their town codes or interpreting the law differently than a developer.
"The law, when you read the details, is very powerful," Crowley said, "but the implementation won't be smooth."
According to documents from the town of Jupiter, the developer for the project, called Santé Circle, said it believes the project is allowed to be built because of SB 102. However, the town attorney disagreed because a development agreement occurred under a different law.
Crowley said issues interpreting state laws at the local level happen with other topics, but developers have enough money to take the issue to court.
He said the bill could allow a developer to turn a shopping center or mall into an apartment building. Crowley said this could create issues because some places might not have the infrastructure needed for these developments.
"If I build a 24-story complex, I can legitimately create a downtown environment, and that means the county might have to make a new sewer system. They might have to do a whole series of things," he explained. "The worst part is that they might not get any taxpayer money for that if they build an entirely affordable project."
WPTV contacted the five lawmakers who sponsored the bipartisan legislation to see why this rule was placed inside the bill late Thursday night, but they didn't return our request for comment.
Crowley said the intent of the legislation is to build a greater housing supply.
"Tallahassee is saying, 'We don't have time to wait anymore,'" he said. "Property values have doubled. They are going to double again. You know, you guys need to start building in scale."
Josh Smith, who employs about 150 people in the medical field, said workforce housing is needed in Jupiter. He said it's hard to keep employees because they have to travel from further distances.
“The employees have to live somewhere," Smith said. "They can’t live in Martin County. They can’t live in Port St. Lucie, and you’re putting employers in a difficult decision.
The council turned down the project over concerns from people about traffic, controlling the population in local schools and the possibility of attracting a corporate headquarters in the future.
The developers for the Santé Circle project said they didn't have future plans for the building on Wednesday.

JUPITER, Fla. — Hidden gems in the Jupiter area are the topic of a new book called "100 Things to do in Jupiter Before you Die."
The book is written by a reporter/editor Amy Woods who is an alumnus of the Palm Beach Post, Jupiter Magazine, Florida Weekly.
It features things you may have driven right passed without noticing or things that you may take for granted.
"I've been writing about (North Palm Beach County) for several years. [I wanted] to create something that visitors would be interested in, a reason for them to come to town. And also for locals to maybe discover what they've been missing," said Woods.
Besides Wood's previous work on topics in North Palm Beach county she found new things that were intriguing to her.
"Well one of the most interesting things in the book, I think, is about Al Capone and his ties to this area. He had a flophouse of sorts or a hideout for his gangsters in Jupiter farms," said Woods.
The book's chapters feature things like the Mancave, a testosterone driven consignment shop, hidden historical treasures like DuBois Pioneer Home, unique restaurants and coffee shops, and Palm Beach County's oldest bar. Plus, it features the up and coming diversity in the area like the Lola Chiq Boutique.
"It's owned by two fashion forward sisters from Puerto Rico, and their merchandise is for flirty, Florida females," Woods said.
The Downtown Palm Beach Gardens shop owners were elated to be included on the list.
"Oh my god. It was amazing. We're like, 'Wow, you made it...' It's definitely an honor just to know that we are now in the fabric of the community. You know, we've been here for 12 years. So it's very nice to be recognized, said Lola Chiq owner Maria Mercado.
Maria's sister and co-owner of the boutique agrees.
"[It's special] that after 12 years hard work and everything has paid off," said Marrietta.
