At first glance, the wedding happening outside a North Palm Beach synagogue appeared to be just an ordinary Orthodox Jewish wedding.
But this wedding was anything but ordinary.
“It’s unbelievably heartwarming how Jews, non-Jews, just people came together to give this couple an unbelievable experience,” said Rabbi Leib Ezagui of Jewish Community Synagogue.

The couple is Zalman Raksin and his wife, Daniella.
They live in New York but were scheduled to marry in Israel.
That’s where Daniella grew up, and it’s where most of her family still lives.
All their friends and family planned to go to Israel for the wedding.
But then the war started.
Raksin has family in Palm Beach County, so he and Daniella left Israel and went there.
“We weren’t sure they were actually going to get here,” Ezagui said. "When they finally got here on Thursday, that’s when we said, ‘Hey, let’s give them a wedding.’”
“This is just unbelievable,” Raksin said. "Having to leave Israel and canceling the wedding over there and just making it happen here within a week."

Within in five days, every detail had been taken care of: the flowers, the food, the music.
“We decided this couple has to get married,” Ezagui said. “Because that’s how the Jewish people survive. We move on. We grow. We rise above.”
Some of the invited guests could make it to North Palm Beach.
Most could not.
Many of the people at the wedding were strangers who just wanted to give the happy couple a proper wedding.
“When you see someone going through something so difficult, you want to be there to show support and show love, even if you don’t know the person,” said Talia Rockmacher of West Palm Beach.
“We wanted to make sure that there were people there that could support them and boost them up when they’re in a sad place,” said Samantha Meltzer of Juno Beach.
And what made the wedding even more special was what happened in Israel the night before.
The original wedding date was Tuesday at a venue just outside of Jerusalem.

A rocket fell there at the exact time they were supposed to be getting married.
“It was crazy,” Daniella said. “It was like Yashem is with us.”
“It broke my heart,” said Mindy Lew, a friend of the groom. “In a place we could have been, but God decided we weren’t supposed to be there.”
“Thank God we weren’t there,” Raksin said. “And we weren’t supposed to be there.”
Instead, they were in North Palm Beach, celebrating and looking forward to a lifetime of happiness.

The local nonprofit organization The Kind Kitchen of Palm Beach, Inc. is partnering with other nonprofit organizations in Israel to give much-needed items to families impacted by the war, as well as Israeli soldiers.
"Putting a smile on a child’s face can save the world, can get somebody to get the energy to keep on living on and on in their terrible situation," Chani Ezagui, director and founder of The Kind Kitchen of Palm Beach, Inc., said. "If somebody is sitting in a hospital and somebody comes in and gives them a smile and gives them hope, that’s more than anything. More than the medicine, more than anything they’re getting is that smile on their face, and that’s a good lesson for us: Smile, and the world will smile with you. Go out there and give your smiles and help a child and help an adult. That’s what everybody is here in this world for, to bring light to the whole world and make it a better place."
All year round, the Kind Kitchen of Palm Beach Inc. delivers meals to people in need throughout our area, with the help of thousands of volunteers.
"I have a debt to whatever power you want to call it, that for what I’ve been given, to be able to help somebody less fortunate is a debt and a gift,” Joy Chiet, a volunteer with The Kind Kitchen, said.
“I want to give back because that’s what we should be doing, and this is a good organization, and I’m honored to be a part of it and serve the people. They’re all so kind," Carolyn Kaestner, another organization volunteer, said.
When the war between Israel and Hamas broke out, a new need emerged. Using community donations, The Kind Kitchen partners with organizations in Israel to make sure toys and other needed items get into the hands of children, families and Israeli soldiers. these get into the hands of children. "If we don’t do anything in action, then what are we here for? We’re here to do action, and when a person gets involved with our organization, then it takes them off a little bit of what’s going on and gives them hope,” Ezagui said.
American Friends of Chabad by the Galleries in Israel is one of The Kind Kitchen's partner organizations. The co-founder says community donations from South Florida are making all the difference to the world for the people in Israel caught in the war, including children, families and soldiers.
"They feel like we’re just with them. The whole world, all of us, are united with them. This is the feeling, so it’s tremendous, it’s beyond,” Rabbi Zalman Traxler, co-founder of American Friends of Chabad by the Galleries, said.

NORTH PALM BEACH, Fla. — Newlyweds Zalam and Daniella Raksin say they had planned a wedding in Israel, but when the war against Hamas broke out, they were forced to cancel their plans and had to evacuate.
"This is just unbelievable, from everything we've been through, having to leave Israel, canceling the wedding there," Zalem, the groom, said.
They came to Florida as Zalem's sister, along with his brother-in-law, run the Jewish Community Synagogue in North Palm Beach.
"What takes people years to plan we pulled off in five days. The community really came through, everyone really chipped in," said Leib Ezagui, Zalem's brother-in-law and rabbi of the Orthodox synagogue.
The Raksins said the venue where they were supposed to get married in Israel was hit by a rocket a day before their original wedding date.
Daniella, who was born in Israel, said she has lost six friends and a niece since the war began.
"It's crazy and we're just lucky that we have everybody surrounding us," Daniella said.
She said her mother was able to fly to Florida for the wedding but said her mother's side of the family is still trapped in Israel.
"If they're watching this what message do you have for them?" WPTV reporter Joel Lopez asked.
"I love you all and you're with me in my heart and hopefully we're going to have quiet days," Daniella said.
The original wedding was set to have about 400 guests, but the new site was filled with friends of the family as well as strangers in the community who wanted to show their support.
"We'll be there for them like everyone is always here for us," Anna Ostrovsky ,who doesn't know the couple but attended the wedding, said. "The weather was terrific, we had a great time, even now I have tears in my eyes."
The ceremony was followed by dinner and dancing.
The couple said they hope to celebrate with loved ones in Israel someday.
"As much as it is sad and it is tough, it's super important in this time for us to be joyful and excited to be happy. Zalem said. "The good deed and the mitzvah that we are doing which is getting married is the biggest and the best mitzvah you can possibly do as a Jewish person because how else will the Jewish nation continue?"

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. —
People across northern Palm Beach County are picking up the pieces following Saturday’s devastating EF2 tornado that ripped through parts of Palm Beach Gardens and North Palm Beach.
Right now it’s still unclear how many people were injured during the EF2 tornado and how many structures and vehicles were damaged.
Even though the tornado is now long gone, the impacts will be felt in some neighborhoods for a long time.

On Melody Lane in North Palm Beach, some of those homes were in the direct path of the tornado. At least one bungalow on the street was completely destroyed. Many trees on the street were completely uprooted. Melody Lane is close to the Point at Palm Beach Gardens apartments in Palm Beach Gardens, which also had damage and had cars flipped over in its parking lot.
People on the street shared what's on their mind with WPBF 25 News.

"Just seeing all the devastation," said Tammy Zickefoose, who lives on Melody Lane. "Being thankful that it wasn’t worse than what it was. Nobody was home in the bungalows."
"Devastation. Complete devastation on this property. Every tree is gone,” said Jenna Hayes, who also lives on Melody Lane.
Neighbors on Melody Lane say they’re working together to help each other pick up the pieces.

"I think it’s because we’re such a close-knit community back here on Melody Lane,” said Hayes.
People are also working to repair their homes from the tornado damage on Smith Drive. There is also extensive damage at Harbour Point Marina.
The vice president of Cast Stone International, Patrick Barrera, says the outdoor gallery at his business, which has been open for 32 years, was severely damaged by a falling billboard during the storm.
He says now they’re trying to clean up and hopefully rebuild.
"We were scared of flying debris and flying stones and everything and we just took shelter inside and waited for the storm to pass,” said Barrera, who was inside one of the buildings at Cast Stone International during the tornado. "That was one of the scariest events that I’ve ever experienced in my life. Just seeing the business you grew up in and being the second generation and vice president of the company, it’s definitely heartbreaking to see but thank God we are all still here and alive and well but once we get this mess cleaned up we are looking to rebuild this company better and stronger."
