All 800 people staying at the Hilton at Woodcliff Lake were forced to leave Saturday night when a pipe burst, likely from the cold weather.
Many of the hotel guests came from across the region for an annual Hanukah celebration.
"We were planning on having a fun night tonight and then right towards the end of Shabbos we heard the sirens go off," partygoer Shlomo Garfinkle said.
Fire officials said the water leak came from the fourth floor.

"There was a leak on the fourth floor from the ceiling, water from the domestic water line and cascaded all the way down," said John Whelan of the Woodcliff Lake Fire Department.
Authorities said that no one was ever in any danger but the sprinkler system is now broken so the hotel had to be evacuated.
"The fire alarm went off and everyone was evacuated safely, everything was orderly, everyone was calm," partygoer Aaron Weinberger said.
The gathering was supposed to last through Sunday, but the majority of the people just went back to their homes instead.
"It happened at, not a terrible time, because at least we were able to finish Shabbos, it happened towards the end of the Shabbos, so we lost out the concert tonight, but we still got the Shabbos in," Garfinkle said.
"Everything was under control, everyone was safe thank god for that and we're all good," Weinberger said.

Party City doesn't expect its bankruptcy filing to impact workers at its Bergen County headquarters, where it employs up to 700 people, the company said in an email after announcing a deal with creditors.
The Woodcliff Lake-based chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Wednesday, as it struggles with rising prices and a pullback in consumer spending. It said its franchise stores, subsidiaries outside of the U.S. and its coveted foil balloons business, Anagram, will not be part of its restructuring.
“We do not anticipate any changes for our team members at our corporate headquarters as a result of the filing,” the company said in a statement emailed to The Record and NorthJersey.com.
The company said in November that it planned to cut almost a fifth of its worldwide workforce, after disappointing holiday season sales. A spokesperson at the time declined to say how many layoffs, if any, might come at the Bergen County office.
In a news release Wednesday, Party City said it had asked a bankruptcy court to allow it to "maintain business-as-usual operations" as it works through a planned restructuring. It expects "to continue to pay wages and provide benefits to the company's employees as usual."
If approved, Chapter 11 protection would allow Party City to stay in business while it pays off its debts. The company said it had worked out a deal with creditors to provide $150 million in financing that "will provide ample liquidity to support continued operations."

More than 800 company-owned and franchise stores in North America will remain open, Party City said, and customers can still shop on the company website.
In 2021, the New Jersey Economic Development Authority awarded $10 million in tax breaks to entice Party City to move its headquarters to Tice Boulevard in Woodcliff Lake, rather than to White Plains, New York. The move consolidated jobs formerly in New York and Rockaway in Morris County. Party City said it would relocate as many as 700 jobs to Bergen County, a move celebrated by state and local officials.
In November, state EDA CEO Tim Sullivan said payment of the tax breaks would be contingent on the company proving it had created the jobs as promised.
“They haven’t gotten a penny yet,” Sullivan said at the time.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — This is no "fish tale."
A giant green fish at a local reservoir is expected to reel in visitors to teach them about becoming responsible stewards of the environment, according to officials.
Finn, an 11-foot-long largemouth bass constructed from repurposed metals, was just unveiled at the Woodcliff Lake Reservoir to celebrate Earth Month — and to encourage residents to take action to protect the watershed, officials said in a release.
"Healthy watersheds mean healthy communities," said Alan Weland, vice president and general manager of New Jersey operations for Veolia Water, which brought Finn to his new home at the reservoir.
“We wanted to create a space where visitors to Woodcliff Lake could enjoy the scenery while making a difference just by taking a walk,” Weland said.
Finn, a Veolia spokesperson said, is a "playful way" to encourage the community to take action to protect the planet, and serves as a reminder about how harmful plastic is to waterways.
Also known as the Green Gobbler, the sculpture was created by for the purpose of recycling and keeping public areas near the waterway clean. In fact, Finn is hollow so visitors can fill him with plastic debris they pick up, and the gamefish is in an area just off Reservoir Road where cleanups are often held to clear debris.
“When anybody takes a look at one of these sculptures they understand there is a problem with plastic," Finn's creator Jim Swaim said. "It’s undeniable that it is doing damage to wildlife and our environment.”
Weighing 300 pounds and sporting "a hungry look," the gigantic fish sculpture carries an even bigger message about protecting the planet, Veolia spokesperson Debra Vial said.
"Thank you to all involved in making this engaging piece of artwork a reality," Veolia North America said in a social media post. "Next time you're at the reservoir, keep an eye out for any debris, and give Finn a snack to eat."

Woodcliff Lake-based Party City Holdco Inc. is preparing to exit Chapter 11 with a reduced store footprint, strengthened capital structure and improved liquidity.
As part of a plan approved Sept. 6 by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas, the party goods retailer’s debt will be reduced by nearly $1 billion and its equity value will be turned over to lenders who helped support the restructuring.
In a statement, Party City said the reorganization will enable the company to “move forward with a more profitable … store footprint, consisting of nearly 800 locations nationwide, after negotiating improved lease terms and exiting less productive locations” during the Chapter 11 process.
When the retailer filed for voluntary bankruptcy in January, it had around 820 stores, owning 770 of them. It also had just over 50 franchise locations in the U.S., Mexico and Puerto Rico.
In commenting on the court approval, the company’s chief executive officer, Brad Weston, said, “With our debt substantially reduced and Party City store portfolio optimized, we will emerge better positioned to advance our strategic priorities, continue to innovate and elevate the consumer experience, and pursue new growth opportunities.”
“We thank our team members, retail and wholesale customers, suppliers, and landlords for their support and collaboration during this process, and we are excited to build on PCHI’s proud history as the leader in the celebrations space,” Weston said.
The approved reorganization plan also calls for a new exit-based loan of $562 million and a backstopped $75 million new money investment to fund distributions and payment of administrative claims as well as the company’s operations once it emerges.
Party City will also have new shareholders, including the members of an ad hoc group of holders of the company’s senior secured first lien notes who supported the restructuring.
Prior to signing off on the deal during a federal court hearing in Houston, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge David Jones reportedly acknowledged the unfavorable outcome for individual stakeholders whose shares will not be wiped out, saying, “The math is what the math is. It’s one of those things where there simply is not an alternative.”
With $1.4 billion in pre-bankruptcy debt, Party City would be unable to repay it and have money left for shareholders, according to Jones.
“This plan sets the company up for success going forward. And most important, your honor, this is a plan that preserves thousands of jobs,” Ken Ziman, an attorney for the company, said during proceedings.
Founded 36 years ago in East Hanover, Party City is the largest retailer of party goods in the U.S., Canada and Mexico and operates under the Party City, Halloween City, Toy City and Party Outlet brands.
In recent years, the company has struggled to keep pace with changing consumer behavior, particularly amid the growth of e-commerce and big box retailers. Since 2019, it has been working on large-scale changes, such as restructuring its debt and closing dozens of stores.
As part of the Chapter 11 process, Party City entered into a restructuring agreement with a bondholder group to reduce its $1.67 billion debt load. It also secured $150 million in debtor-in-possession financing to support operations, as well as court approval to keep its stores open.
In recent months, the business has faced several challenges, but an attorney for the official creditor’s committee told Bloomberg that Party City “has been able to overcome … the trials and tribulations.”
Party City revealed in a June filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that its longtime auditor, Ernst & Young LLP, resigned due to a disagreement over the retailer’s decision to not include a going concern warning in its third quarter 2022 report. A few weeks later, the SEC asked Party City to retain documents and data in connection with an “ongoing investigation” by the regulator.
It is also facing a class action lawsuit for allegedly misleading shareholders regarding the company’s financial health ahead of filing for bankruptcy protection.
Of the numerous retailers who have sought Chapter 11 relief this year, Party City is among the few to emerge intact and with plans to continue operations.
Chains including Union-based Bed Bath & Beyond were forced to shut down its namesake stores, as well as its Buybuy Baby and Harmon Face Values banners. Following Bed Bath & Beyond’s demise, its intellectual property rights were acquired by Overstock.com, which has since relaunched the brand’s website, while Dream On Me, a baby goods retailer in Piscataway, scooped up BuyBuy Baby’s digital assets.
