What is Testosterone?

Testosterone is a crucial hormone for men and plays an important role throughout the male lifespan. Most of a male's testosterone is produced through the testicles. Also called the male sex hormone, testosterone starts playing its part during puberty.

When a male goes through puberty, testosterone helps males develop:

  • Facial Hair
  • Body Hair
  • Deeper Voice
  • Muscle Strength
  • Increased Libido
  • Muscle Density

As boys turn to men and men grow older, testosterone levels deplete naturally. Sometimes, events like injuries and chronic health conditions like diabetes can lower testosterone levels. Unfortunately, when a man loses too much T, it results in hypogonadism. When this happens, the testosterone must be replaced, or the male will suffer from symptoms like muscle loss, low libido, and even depression.

How Does TRT Work?

TRT is exactly what it sounds like: a treatment option for men that replaces testosterone so that your body regulates hormones properly and restores balance to your life. Also called androgen replacement therapy, TRT alleviates the symptoms that men experience with low T.

Originally lab-synthesized in 1935, testosterone has grown in popularity since it was produced. Today, TRT and other testosterone treatments are among the most popular prescriptions in the U.S.

Without getting too deep into the science, TRT works by giving your body the essential testosterone it needs to function correctly. As the primary androgen for both males and females, testosterone impacts many of the body's natural processes – especially those needed for overall health. For example, men with low T are more prone to serious problems like cardiovascular disease and even type-2 diabetes.

When your body quits making enough testosterone, it causes your health to suffer until a solution is presented. That's where TRT and anti-aging medicine for men can help. TRT helps balance your hormones and replenish your depleted testosterone. With time, your body will begin to heal, and many symptoms like low libido and irritability begin to diminish.

What Causes Low T?

For men, aging is the biggest contributor to lower testosterone levels, though there are other causes like obesity, drug abuse, testicular injuries, and certain prescribed medications. Sometimes, long-term health conditions like AIDS, cirrhosis of the liver, and kidney disease can lower testosterone levels.

When a man's testosterone levels drop significantly, it alters his body's ratio of estrogen and testosterone. Lower testosterone levels cause more abdominal fat, which in turn results in increased aromatase, which converts even more testosterone into estrogen.

If you're concerned that you might have low T, you're not alone. Millions of men in the U.S. feel the same way. The best way to find out if your testosterone is low is to get your levels tested.

For sustainable testosterone replacement therapy benefits, you must consult with hormone doctors and experts like those you can find at Global Life Rejuvenation. That way, you can find the root cause of your hormone problems, and our team can craft a personalized HRT plan tailored to your needs.

Low Sex Drive

One of the most common reasons that men choose TRT is because they have lost that "spark" with their partner. It's not easy for a man to hear that they're not performing like they used to. Intimacy is a powerful part of any relationship. When a once-healthy sex life dwindles, it can cause serious relationship issues.

The good news is that low libido doesn't have to be a permanent problem. TRT and anti-aging medicines help revert hormone levels back into their normal range. When this happens, many men have a more enjoyable life full of intimacy and sex drive.

Inability to Achieve and Maintain an Erection

Weak erections – it's an uncomfortable subject for many men in the U.S. to talk about. It's even worse to experience first-hand. You're in the midst of an intimate moment, and you can't do your part. Despite being perfectly normal, many men put blame and shame upon themselves when they can't achieve an erection. And while the inability to perform sexually can be caused by poor diet, obesity, and chronic health conditions, low testosterone is often a contributing factor.

Fortunately, weak erections are a treatable condition. The best way to regain your confidence and ability in bed is to speak with your doctor. Once any underlying conditions are discovered, options like TRT may be the best course of treatment.

Loss of Strength and Muscle Mass

Do you find it harder and harder to work out and lift weights in the gym? Are you having problems lifting heavy items that you once had no problem lifting?

Recent studies show that when men are inactive, they lose .5% of muscle strength every year, from ages 25 to 60. After 60, muscle loss doubles every decade. While some muscle loss is common as men age, a significant portion can be tied to low testosterone levels. When a man's T levels drop, so does his muscle mass.

Testosterone is a much-needed component used in gaining and retaining muscle mass. That's why many doctors prescribe TRT Glen Rock, NJ, for men having problems with strength. One recent study found that men who increased their testosterone levels using TRT gained as much as 2.5 pounds of muscle mass.

Whether your gym performance is lacking, or you can't lift heavy items like you used to, don't blame it all on age. You could be suffering from hypogonadism.

Hair Loss

If you're like millions of other men in their late 20s and 30s, dealing with hair loss is a reality you don't want to face. Closely related to testosterone decline and hormone imbalances, hair loss is distressing for many men. This common symptom is often related to a derivative of testosterone called DHT. Excess amounts of DHT cause hair follicles to halt their production, causing follicles to die.

Because hair located at the front and crown is more sensitive to DHT, it grows slower than other follicles and eventually stops growing permanently. Thankfully, TRT and anti-aging treatments for men in Glen Rock, NJ, is now available to address hair loss for good.

While it's true that you can't change your genes, you can change the effects of low testosterone on your body. Whether you're suffering from thinning hair or hair loss across your entire head, TRT and other hormone therapies can stop hair loss and even reverse the process.

Gynecomastia

Also called "man boobs," gynecomastia is essentially the enlargement of male breast tissue. This increase in fatty tissue is often caused by hormonal imbalances and an increase in estrogen. For men, estrogen levels are elevated during andropause. Also called male menopause, andropause usually happens because of a lack of testosterone.

If you're a man between the ages of 40 and 55, and you're embarrassed by having large breasts, don't lose hope. TRT is a safe, effective way to eliminate the underlying cause of gynecomastia without invasive surgery. With a custom HRT and fitness program, you can bring your testosterone and estrogen levels back to normal before you know it.

Decreased Energy

Decreased energy was once considered a normal part of aging. Today, many doctors know better. Advances in technology and our understanding of testosterone show that low T and lack of energy often go hand-in-hand.

If you're struggling to enjoy activities like playing with your kids or hiking in a park due to lack of energy, it could be a sign of low T. Of course, getting tired is perfectly normal for any man. But if you're suffering from continual fatigue, a lack of enjoyment, or a decrease in energy, it might be time to speak with a doctor.

Whether you're having a tough time getting through your day or can't finish activities you used to love, TRT could help.

Lack of Sleep

A study from 2011 showed that men who lose a week's worth of sleep can experience lowered testosterone levels – as much as 15%, according to experts. Additional research into the topic found almost 15% of workers only get five hours of sleep (or less) per night. These findings suggest that sleep loss negatively impacts T levels and wellbeing.

The bottom line is that men who have trouble sleeping often suffer from lower testosterone levels as a result. If you find yourself exhausted at the end of the day but toss and turn all night long, you might have low T.

TRT and anti-aging medicines can restore your T levels back to normal, which can help you sleep better with proper diet and exercise.

Depression

You're feeling down about everything, and there's no solid explanation for why you're in such a crummy mood. Your daily life is great and full of success, but you can't help but feel unexcited and unmotivated. If you're experiencing symptoms like these, you may be depressed – and it may stem from low testosterone.

A research study from Munich found that men with depression also commonly had low testosterone levels. This same study also found that depressed men had cortisol levels that were 67% higher than other men. Because higher cortisol levels lead to lower levels of testosterone, the chances of severe depression increase.

Depression is a very real disorder and should always be diagnosed and treated by your doctor. One treatment option gaining in popularity is TRT for depression. Studies show that when TRT is used to restore hormone levels, men enjoy a lighter, more improved mood. That's great news for men who are depressed and have not had success with other treatments like anti-depression medicines, which alter the brain's chemistry.

Inability to Concentrate

Ask anyone over the age of 50 how their memory is, and they'll tell you it wasn't what it used to be. Memory loss and lack of concentration occur naturally as we age – these aren't always signs of dementia or Alzheimer's.

However, what many men consider a symptom of age may be caused by low testosterone. A 2006 study found that males with low T levels performed poorly on cognitive skill tests. These results suggest that low testosterone may play a part in reducing cognitive ability. If you're having trouble staying on task or remembering what your schedule is for the day, it might not be due to your age. It might be because your testosterone levels are too low. If you're having trouble concentrating or remembering daily tasks, it could be time to talk to your doctor.

Why? The aforementioned study found that participating men experienced improved cognitive skills when using TRT.

 TRT Glen Rock, NJ

Weight Gain

Even though today's society is more inclusive of large people, few adults enjoy gaining weight as they age. Despite their best efforts, many men just can't shed the extra pounds around their midsections, increasing their risk of heart disease and cancer.

Often, male weight gain is caused by hormone imbalances that slow the metabolism and cause weight to pile on. This phase of life is called andropause and happens when there is a lack of testosterone in the body. Couple that with high cortisol levels, and you've got a recipe for flabby guts and double chins.

Fortunately, TRT treatments and physician-led weight loss programs can correct hormone imbalances and lead to healthy weight loss for men.

What is Sermorelin?

Sermorelin is a synthetic hormone peptide, like GHRH, which triggers the release of growth hormones. When used under the care of a qualified physician, Sermorelin can help you lose weight, increase your energy levels, and help you feel much younger.

HRT For Men Glen Rock, NJ

Benefits of Sermorelin

Human growth hormone (HGH) therapy has been used for years to treat hormone deficiencies. Unlike HGH, which directly replaces declining human growth hormone levels, Sermorelin addresses the underlying cause of decreased HGH, stimulating the pituitary gland naturally. This approach keeps the mechanisms of growth hormone production active.

Benefits of Sermorelin include:

  • Better Immune Function
  • Improved Physical Performance
  • More Growth Hormone Production
  • Less Body Fat
  • Build More Lean Muscle
  • Better Sleep

What is Ipamorelin?

Ipamorelin helps to release growth hormones in a person's body by mimicking a peptide called ghrelin. Ghrelin is one of three hormones which work together to regulate the growth hormone levels released by the pituitary gland. Because Ipamorelin stimulates the body to produce growth hormone, your body won't stop its natural growth hormone production, which occurs with synthetic HGH.

Ipamorelin causes growth hormone secretion that resembles natural release patterns rather than being constantly elevated from HGH. Because ipamorelin stimulates the natural production of growth hormone, our patients can use this treatment long-term with fewer health risks.

When growth hormone is produced by the pituitary gland using Ipamorelin, clients report amazing benefits.

  • Powerful Anti-Aging Properties
  • More Muscle Mass
  • Less Unsightly Body Fat
  • Deep, Restful Sleep
  • Increased Athletic Performance
  • More Energy
  • Less Recovery Time for Training Sessions and Injuries

GLEN ROCK, NJ - Could sidewalk sales be in Glen Rock's future? The Borough Council is discussing it as a way to promote local businesses.

Council member Mary Barchetto proposed holding annual sidewalk sales during the May 25 Council work session.

“It’s not a terribly heavy lift, we would advertise it, and then it would become an annual thing and hopefully draw other customers from other towns just like the Ridgewood sidewalk sale does,” Barchetto said.

The idea stems from Ridgewood's seemingly successful sidewalk sales in the past, which inspired Barchetto to encourage Glen Rock merchants to host a similar event.

Barchetto suggested holding two regularly scheduled sales throughout the year over the course of three days; June 1st, 2nd, and 3rd (2023) followed by October 13th, 14th, and 15th (2022), for instance.

Barchetto said the intent is to advertise to non-brick and mortar businesses for space in the Alcove and Demarest Park where they would be able to display their merchandise.

Some council members were concerned about the application process, wondering allowed who would get the outdoor spots.

Additionally, Barchetto said they are considering live music, suggesting the commission of “unamplified musicians” for a more relaxing atmosphere.

Barchetto will reach out to the fire department to confirm they can walk around the morning of the event to ensure fire code clearance. Vendors would also be expected to provide their own supplies for their booths.

The Council agreed "this kind of event could be a great step in supporting small businesses in Glen Rock and hopefully attracting more to open."

And they're hoping to inspire engagement not only between residents and business owners, but neighboring towns, as well.

However, there was debate regarding who would head this kind of operation.

“Why is this going to be a borough undertaking rather than having the guild or the chamber take it?” Council member Amy Martin asked. While she is in favor of sidewalk sales and the different businesses in the community, she wonders whether this is something for the new Business Commission to handle.

Most council members were in favor of a town wide sidewalk sale, but were concerned about the complexities.

"Anything that helps local businesses, I’m for it," Council member Jon Cole said.

The borough administration noted the Alcove is still undergoing a series of renovations that are yet to be complete, and therefore, this project would need to come second and likely be delayed until 2023.

GLEN ROCK — The gold band was tangled in roots under 5 inches of dirt when Michele Cohen dug it up.

Cohen was making a new flower bed this month outside her Van Allen Road home when she saw the metal glint. She cleaned off the wedding ring and found a pair of initials and a date on the inside: "10/31/92."

"I asked my neighbor if he knew anyone with those initials who had lived there, and he said no," she recalled this week.

Cohen didn't realize it at the time, but she was about to solve a mystery that had lingered for 28 years — and add another chapter to a more-than-30-year-old love story.

Her next step was to post a photo of the ring on the "Glen Rockers" Facebook page.

"I found a wedding band on my lawn," she wrote on June 7. She noted the inscription on the band, "DFE & SCE," but not the date. "If you lost your ring or know who it may belong to," she explained, "please message me (and be prepared to tell me the date inscribed to claim it)."

From there, fellow Glen Rocker Laura Occhipinti took up the challenge.

"I assumed it was a Glen Rock resident, and there aren't many people with last names starting in E," Occhipinti said in an interview. "I did a land records search and found them. It took about 20 seconds."

A mile away on Franklin Place, Debbie Frances Emery got a message on Glen Rockers from Occhipinti.

More:A Ridgewood man lost his dog tags at sea years ago. Here's how he got them back with help

A three-decade-old question had been answered, in a relationship that goes back much further.

Debbie and her husband, Shawn Christopher Emery, were Glen Rock High School classmates, graduating in 1977. She'd sat behind Shawn in alphabetically arranged homerooms for six years without more than a friendly exchange of banter. They reconnected after college on a double date.

The couple, both now 63 years old, were married in the Community Church of Glen Rock on Halloween, Oct. 31,1992, with a reception following at the Park Ridge Marriott.

"We wanted a fall wedding, and that was the only date they had open for the reception," Shawn said. "It had nothing to do with Halloween, although I do remember some fluorescent headbands at the reception."

Shawn, a construction worker, estimated he lost his wedding band sometime in 1994, but did not know exactly where or when. He frequently took the ring off and slipped it into a pocket while on the job, he said.

After a futile search, he hid the ring's loss from Debbie for a year, telling her it was "in a drawer or under the socks somewhere."

"I knew I was in for a butt-whippin' when she found out," he said.

The couple were living in Hawthorne at the time, and "we tore the place apart looking for it," added Debbie.

They eventually replaced Shawn's ring but never had the replacement engraved.

And there the Glen Rock Ring Cycle seemed to have ended, until Laura Occhipinti's message about Michele Cohen's discovery arrived.

"We couldn't figure out how the ring got there until Michele said she'd bought the house from Buzz Whitmore, a real estate agent my husband knew," Debbie said. "Shawn had done some work for him at the house."

"I was a little teary," she added, "since our 30th anniversary is in October."

Shawn called the recovery of his ring "a nice surprise" and is having it resized to fit over an enlarged knuckle.

"It's never coming off again," he promised.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — New Jersey has an economy about the size of Sweden’s though we consider ourselves a small state of smaller towns.

In most of them, there's a few longtime gas stations that hired high school kids in summer to work the pumps, fixed kids’ bikes, sponsored community sports teams and tuned up your cars.

I visited with the owner of one such station in North Jersey to get a bottom-up view of this $5 a gallon world.

We read, see, talk and tweet a gazillion reasons among each other as to why this is happening: Sleazy oil companies. Global warming. Russians. Inflation. Politicians. On and on. It seems only the Kardashians have escaped blame for this.

The last domino in this tantrum trail is the guy or gal for whom you roll down your car window maybe twice a week, gulp out “fill it up please,” and then groan as you shell out $80 to $100 each time for that, uh, privilege.

These local gas station owners know more about the town they are in than the geopolitics of the Persian Gulf, national energy policies or what goes on among the “oil-garchs” of their own industry.

“All I know is that it’s not ME making out like a bandit in all this,” said the dealer I visited. He operates as a familiar brand-name franchise and asked that neither his name nor his station’s be identified.

“I get the same fixed price, not a percentage, whether it’s two bucks a gallon or five. Oh, I do get more. I get a lot of abuse.”

He said the corporation tanker pulls up with a given price for him, and it’s as much a sticker shock for him as it is for his customers, though his delivery this morning was less for the first time in a long time. But, from that fixed sliver, he must also pay for labor, insurance, security, utilities, upkeep and more.

"I have no (pricing) wiggle room, or very little, because I make my money with gas on volume. That volume decreases each time prices go higher. Plus, I have to remain competitive against the cheaper outlets out on the highway, the Costco’s and unbranded independent stations that can broker alone for cheaper gas that is missing the additives you won’t notice till it’s repair time.”

What are patrons saying?

“There’s a LOT of frustration and anger. Yeah, we get some of it. But, it’s interesting to see that most blame a generic entity they call ‘the government,' before Arabs, Russians or Big Oil, that’s what I find,” he said. “I’ll ask even which government? Who? Few answer.”

Will any potential federal or state gas tax repeals be of help?

“Honestly, not really. It’s a politician’s solution made out to be a real one. The feds are talking about 18 cents off per five dollar gallon. Really? On a hundred dollar fill? C’mon. That person will still be mad. The state reduction might be twice the fed. But our industry always finds a way to pass it along to the consumers anyway. By hiking the price. That’s exactly what happened across the River (New York). Gas tax down. Pump price up. Dealers like me are almost reduced to the powerlessness and frustration of our own customers from our own industry!”

There is a positive business side to all this for many dealers, though.

“Our garage (repairs) side has really done well because less expensive used cars are being bought, and we are fixing them up after purchase, and many other people are tending to hold off on purchasing new or used, so they bring in their current ones in and say ‘can you fix it, so I can get a year or two more out of this?'”

What about the argument that abolishing full service for self-serve will bring the prices down?

“Well, yes, with labor both scarce and expensive, but here’s the other end of that see-saw. Even to compromise by having both, let’s say, you’ll see the self serve island pump prices go down. But, the full-service side will go way up anyway. That’s what happened in California. Try selling that self-service savings notion to people in the New Jersey wintertime.”

The dealer said the consumer doesn’t appreciate how “brutal” competition among dealers has always been, but even more so now at these prices. Small town stations are disappearing in New Jersey.

The dealer said that we do not appreciate how relatively lower the price per gallon is compared to other parts of the world, as he himself found out last week while on vacation in the Caribbean.

“I pulled into the full service island. It was $12 per gallon,” he said. “ But I couldn't complain to the attendant because I know how he felt.”

If you feel something needs to be written about or would like to offer up information, please feel free to email James McQueeny at [email protected].

Player of the Year: Colin Sabia, Jefferson, Jr.

Sabia put up impressive offensive numbers for an attackman this spring with 31 goals and 16 assists for 47 points.

Thing is, Sabia is not an attackman, but rather an attackman’s (or middie’s) nightmare as Jefferson’s multi-talented longstick middie. Along with those 47 points, Sabia won 85 of 160 faceoffs and gobbled up a remarkable 251 ground balls to help the Falcons finish 15-5 and win the division with an 8-0 mark.

Sabia has 44 goals and 26 assists and 442 ground balls over the past two seasons.

Coach of the Year: David Gallucci, Newton

Gallucci came to the Braves this season after coaching Mount Olive for the past 17 years, and made an immediate impact. Newton won six of its first eight games on its way to an 11-7 finish; that’s just one goal shy of the team’s total victory count over the previous three seasons.

Seniors Ryan Lynch and Robert Giordano paced Gallucci’s offense along with surprising freshman attackman Ty Guzzo, while juniors Pasquale Fersta, Matt McLean and goalie Ryan Ivaldi helped anchor the defense. The Braves reached the quarterfinals in North, Group 1 and fell to Glen Rock, 18-6.

Team of the Year: Jefferson

The Falcons were a fascinating blend of proven veterans and hungry, talented newcomers, and they blended it all together to produce an 8-0 mark in the division and a 15-5 overall record.

Jefferson started three freshmen this season, including twins Calen and Jamison Reid, sons of head coach Scott Reid, and defenseman Aidan Fitzsimmons, and all performed with surprising consistency. Calen Reid, in fact, led the club with 80 points on 23 goals and 57 assists, and brother Jamison, a goalie stopped 61 percent of the shots he faced.

Multi-faceted junior Colin Sabia led Jefferson with three-pronged effectiveness as a defender, faceoff man and scorer (31 goals, 16 assists), Josh Danyus, Alex Johns and Fitzsimmons helped him anchor the defense, and Vinnie Leppard, Harrison Root and Anthony Cheff helped spark the offense. Of all those players mentioned, Cheff is the only senior.
