Types of Testosterone Esters For Men

Types-of-Testosterone-Esters-For-Men

Like women, when men get older, their bodies begin to change – not just physically with more wrinkles but hormonally, too. If you’re a man, over the age of 40 and you’ve noticed signs like intense fatigue, hair loss, decreased libido, loss of muscle mass, and poor mood, you’re not alone. Thousands of men around the country feel the same way you do, and often, it’s due to low testosterone.

In the past, men were taught to suck it up and simply “deal” with the symptoms of aging. Today, we know better. With treatment options like testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) on the table, men no longer have to suffer through the embarrassing signs of getting older.  Did you know that there are different forms of injectable testosterone to consider?

Let’s look at the three most common forms of injectable testosterone and some of the many benefits they provide to men across the U.S.

The Role of Natural and Injectable Testosterone

Of all the hormones in a man’s body, testosterone is among the most important. Most men make enough testosterone naturally until they reach their 40s. At this point, many males experience a drop in testosterone and use TRT injections to rebalance their hormones and feel great.

Unlike the testosterone that your body produces naturally, injectable testosterone is modified so that your body doesn’t break it down as fast. Modified forms of testosterone are often called testosterone esters. The three most common testosterone esters include:

  • Testosterone Cypionate
  • Testosterone Propionate
  • Testosterone Enanthate

There are many ways that testosterone esters differ, but the most relevant difference is how long they last in your body.

Types of Testosterone Esters

  1. Testosterone Cypionate

Also called Depo-Testosterone, this injectable form of testosterone is an eight-carbon ester and is typically administered into your buttock muscle. Unlike testosterone enanthate, cypionate can be injected from the comfort of your home or in a medical setting by a professional. This type of T is often referred to as a long-acting form of testosterone. Typically, your body can metabolize testosterone cypionate in seven to eight days. Dosage amounts vary depending on your health and your testosterone levels but are usually between 100-200mg.

Common benefits include:

  • More Energy and Vigor
  • More Motivation
  • Mental Clarity
  1. Testosterone Propionate

Testosterone propionate is considered a slow-releasing steroid with a short half-life, letting patients run cycles anywhere from eight to 10 weeks. As a form of androgen replacement therapy, it has been shown to treat conditions such as breast cancer, delayed puberty, and hypogonadism. Because of its faster release times, it can peak in a patient’s blood just hours after it’s administered by a doctor and can be metabolized in three days.  Because this form of testosterone is absorbed into your body quickly, patients often need more frequent injections when compared to enanthate and cypionate.

Common benefits include:

  • Gain Lean Muscle
  • Increased Physical Strength
  • More Endurance

  1. Testosterone Enanthate

This type of testosterone is a derivative of your body’s primary endogenous androgen testosterone. Generally, patients start with a dose somewhere between 100-200mg, with additional doses to be administered every five to seven days. Since every patient has different baseline levels of testosterone and other factors to consider, your initial dose of testosterone enanthate may be more or less than standard doses.

Common benefits include:

  • Enhanced Libido
  • Maintenance of Bone Health and Density
  • More Strength, Endurance, and Recovery
