Treatments for Elbow Pain:
Treatment can vary depending on the severity of the injury. When treating an elbow injury, your doctor will examine the joint, gather your medical history, and recommend tests to develop the best treatment plan for you.
For mild elbow pain, at-home treatments may provide relief. These treatments include:
- Avoiding activities that aggravate the elbow
- Applying ice to the elbow for 15-20 minutes 2 to 3 times a day
- Taking over-the-counter pain medication, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen
- Supporting the elbow with an elbow pad
For more severe or chronic elbow pain, aspiration (extracting fluid from the elbow), or steroid injections may help reduce inflammation and provide relief.
