ATTOM’s May 2022 U.S. Foreclosure Market Report found there were a total of 30,881 U.S. properties with foreclosure filings — default notices, scheduled auctions or bank repossessions — in May 2022. That number was up just 1 percent from April 2022 but up 185 percent from May 2021.
According to ATTOM’s latest foreclosure activity analysis, nationwide one in every 4,549 housing units had a foreclosure filing in May 2022. The report noted that states with the highest foreclosure rates were Illinois (one in every 2,000 housing units with a foreclosure filing); New Jersey (one in every 2,346 housing units); Delaware (one in every 2,426 housing units); Ohio (one in every 2,667 housing units); and Florida (one in every 2,788 housing units).
The report also noted that among the 223 metro areas with a population of at least 200,000, those with the highest foreclosure rates in May 2022 were Jacksonville, NC (one in every 1,052 housing units with a foreclosure filing); Cleveland, OH (one in every 1,389 housing units); Chicago, IL (one in every 1,777 housing units); Fayetteville, NC (one in every 1,823 housing units); and Rockford, IL (one in every 1,861 housing units).
Also according to the report, among those larger metro areas with a population greater than 1 million, those with the worst foreclosure rates in May 2022 including Cleveland, OH and Chicago, IL were: Jacksonville, FL (one in every 1,985 housing units); Orlando, FL (one in every 2,295 housing units); and Miami, FL (one in every 2,432 housing units).

Among zips with a population of 10,000 or more, the top 10 with the worst foreclosure rates in May 2022 included: 60419 in Dolton, IL (one in every 333 housing units); 44105 in Cleveland, OH (one in every 354 housing units); 60478 in Country Club Hills, IL (one in every 358 housing units); 44128 in Cleveland, OH (one in every 362 housing units); 11701 in Amityville, NY (one in every 368 housing units); 60153 in Maywood, IL (one in every 394 housing units); 44108 in Cleveland, OH (one in every 424 housing units); 44112 in Cleveland, OH (one in every 436 housing units); 60545 in Plano, IL (one in every 466 housing units); and 60628 in Chicago, IL (one in every 476 housing units).
ATTOM’s latest foreclosure market analysis also reported that lenders started the foreclosure process on 22,099 U.S. properties in May 2022. That number was down just 1 percent from April 2022 but up 274 percent from May 2021. Those states with the greatest number of foreclosure starts in May 2022 included: Florida (2,483 foreclosure starts); California (2,238 foreclosure starts); Texas (2,019 foreclosure starts); Illinois (1,757 foreclosure starts); and Ohio (1,285 foreclosure starts).
Also according to the report, lenders repossessed 2,857 U.S. properties through completed foreclosures (REOs) in May 2022. That number was up just 1 percent from April 2022 but up 117 percent from May 2021. Those states with the greatest number of REOs in May 2022 included: Illinois (350 REOs); Michigan (249 REOs); Pennsylvania (226 REOs); New Jersey (175 REOs); and Ohio (146 REOs).

The Kroger Co. has bolstered its delivery network in South Florida with the opening of an Ocado-automated “spoke” facility in Opa-Locka, Florida.
Kroger said Wednesday that the 60,000-square-foot spoke serves as a last-mile, cross-dock location to extend the reach of a 375,000-square-foot, Ocado-powered customer fulfillment center (CFC) in Groveland, Florida, that began operations in June 2021. The Opa-Locka site, employing 90 new associates, will help fill and deliver online grocery orders for communities between Port St. Lucie in the north to Homestead in the south, including both the east and west sides of Interstate 95, the Cincinnati-based grocer noted.
“We are thrilled to connect more Floridians to the Kroger Delivery shopping experience, which brings thousands of digital coupons, valuable fuel points and the freshest products directly to customers’ doors,” Bill Bennett, vice president and head of e-commerce at Kroger, said in a statement. “Whether they are using the Kroger app or browsing our weekly ad at Kroger.com, customers can enjoy fresh, high-quality, affordable groceries delivered by best-in-class uniformed drivers.”
Overall, Kroger has announced 13 Ocado-driven spokes of 40,000- to 80,000-square-feet, which can expand delivery service of the CFC “hubs” to up to 200 miles. Most recently, the supermarket giant had launched a 50,000-square-foot spoke in Oklahoma City—expanding its reach to 36 states—and a 67,000-square-foot spoke in northeast San Antonio. Both the Oklahoma City and San Antonio facilities support a 350,000-square-foot CFC in Dallas that opened last summer.
Besides the Opa-Locka, Oklahoma City and San Antonio sites, Ocado spokes are now operational in Birmingham, Alabama; Nashville, Tennessee; Maywood, Illinois; Miami, Tampa and Jacksonville, Florida; Lockbourne, Ohio; Indianapolis; and Louisville, Kentucky. Another spoke is slated to open in Austin, Texas.
In May 2018, Kroger unveiled an exclusive U.S. partnership with U.K.-based online grocery specialist Ocado Group to identify sites for about 20 automated CFCs over the ensuing three years. The high-tech CFCs use Ocado’s vertical integration, machine learning and robotics to fill e-grocery delivery orders and extend Kroger’s reach to a larger geographic footprint, including areas where it doesn’t operate physical stores.
So far, Kroger has announced 17 Ocado CFCs—ranging from 135,000- to 375,000-square-feet—and seven are now open.
Kroger opened its first CFC, a 375,000-square-foot automated warehouse, in April 2021 in Monroe, Ohio. That was followed by 375,000-square-foot CFCs in Groveland, Fla., in June 2021 and in Forest Park, Ga., last February plus a 340,000-square-foot CFC in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, this past June. Most recently, CFCs of 300,000-, 135,000- and 350,000-square-feet went operational in Aurora, Colorado; Romulus, Michigan; and Dallas, respectively. The Groveland location marked the first CFC in a state where Kroger generally doesn’t operate physical stores, save for one Harris Teeter store in Jacksonville, Florida.
Upcoming CFCs, as previously reported by Kroger, include locations in Frederick, Maryland; Phoenix; Charlotte, North Carolina; the Cleveland region; the Pacific Northwest; and the Northeast. The retailer, too, has announced plans for two CFCs in Southern California and two more in Florida.

Cincinnati-based Kroger said Thursday a 40,000-square-foot spoke on Polk Avenue in Nashville, Tenn., will work with its 375,000-square-foot, Ocado-powered customer fulfillment center (CFC) in Forest Park, Ga., increasing the Kroger Delivery network’s reach in the greater Nashville area to customers up to 200 miles from the CFC hub, which opened this past February.

A bigger spoke site in Maywood, Ill., sized at nearly 80,000 square feet, will support Kroger’s Ocado CFC in Pleasant Prairie, Wis., an approximately 340,000-square-foot facility that went live in late June. The new spoke will enable Kroger Delivery to reach customers in the Chicago metropolitan area.
Including the Nashville and Maywood locations, Kroger and Ocado so far have announced 12 spoke sites, which serve as
last-mile, cross-dock sites to enlarge the service radius of CFCs. Five spokes are now live — in Miami, Tampa and Jacksonville, Fla.; Lockbourne, Ohio; and in Indianapolis — and another five are planned for Louisville, Ky.; Oklahoma City; and Austin and San Antonio, Texas, and Birmingham, Ala. Kroger didn’t give an opening time frame for the new spokes in Tennessee and Illinois.

“Kroger Delivery offers customers a truly differentiated service. Orders are transported in refrigerated trucks and delivered by trained Kroger uniformed associates, giving customers an unparalleled white glove delivery experience,” Bill Bennett, vice president and head of e-commerce at Kroger, said in a statement. “Kroger Delivery is part of our rapidly expanding seamless ecosystem that provides customers with fresh and quality products when and where they want it, all with zero compromise and at an incredible value.”
When unveiling their partnership in May 2018, Kroger and United Kingdom-based Ocado Group said they planned to open 20 CFCs in the United States over the ensuing three years. The Ocado CFCs and supporting facilities use vertical integration, machine learning and robotics to service online grocery orders and are expected to extend Kroger’s reach to a larger geographic footprint, including areas where it doesn’t operate brick-and-mortar stores.
To date, Kroger has announced 17 Ocado-driven CFCs, with five now operational. Besides the Forest Park and Pleasant Prairie locations, they include a CFC in Monroe, Ohio — Kroger's first Ocado facility — that went live in April 2021; a 375,000-square-foot CFC that opened in Groveland, Fla., last June; and a 350,000-square-foot CFC that launched in Dallas this spring. In early March, Kroger said it plans to construct a 270,000-square-foot, “Cleveland region” CFC that will serve areas in northeastern Ohio and Pennsylvania, with the latter representing the grocer’s 37th state. And then last month, a nearly 300,000-square-foot CFC was announced for Aurora, Colo.
Other Ocado CFCs reported by Kroger run from 135,000 to 375,000 square feet and include locations in Frederick, Md.; Phoenix; and Romulus, Mich., as well as Charlotte, N.C., the Pacific Northwest; and the Northeast, the latter representing another location where Kroger lacks stores, along with Pennsylvania and Florida (save for a Harris Teeter store in the Jacksonville area). The retailer also has announced plans for two CFCs in Southern California and two more in Florida.
Among its efforts to drive use of its online grocery shopping, delivery and pickup services, Kroger yesterday said it has rolled out its Boost by Kroger online benefits program nationwide. Boost is offered in two membership tiers, priced at $59 or $99 annually. All members get free delivery for online orders of $35 or more and double fuel points (up to $1 off per gallon of gasoline) for each dollar spent on groceries and general merchandise. The $59 annual membership provides delivery within 24 hours, while the $99-per-year option offers delivery in as soon as two hours. Kroger estimated that a Boost membership can save customers more than $1,000 per year on fuel and grocery delivery.

The Nashville spoke will work with Kroger 375,000-square-foot, Ocado-powered customer fulfillment center (CFC) in Forest Park, Ga., in the Atlanta area, increasing the Kroger Delivery network’s reach in greater Nashville to customers up to 200 miles from the CFC hub, which opened this past February.
Meanwhile, the bigger Maywood spoke will support the Ocado-automated CFC in Pleasant Prairie, Wis., a 340,000-square-foot facility that went live in late June. Kroger said
the new spoke will also provide the CFC a 200-mile service radius, enabling Kroger Delivery to reach customers in the Chicago metropolitan area.

“The continued expansion of the Kroger fulfillment network means improved access to fresh food for customers eager for the variety and value offered by Kroger that once could only be accessed through our stores,” Gabriel Arreaga, senior vice president and chief supply chain officer at Kroger, said in a statement. “This network enables Kroger to add scale, achieve reliability of experience, gain from the benefits of automation and ultimately widen our customer reach in current operating regions and new parts of the U.S.”
Overall, Kroger has announced 12 Ocado-automated spokes of 40,000 to 80,000 square feet, with nine now live. Besides the Nashville and Maywood locations, the operational spoke facilities are in Miami, Tampa and Jacksonville, Fla.; Lockbourne, Ohio; Indianapolis; Louisville, Ky.; and San Antonio. Other spokes are slated to open in Oklahoma City; Austin, Texas; and Birmingham, Ala.
In May 2018, Kroger unveiled an exclusive U.S. partnership with U.K.-based online grocery specialist Ocado to identify sites for about 20 automated CFCs over the ensuing three years. The high-tech CFCs use Ocado’s vertical integration, machine learning and robotics to fill e-grocery delivery orders and extend Kroger’s reach to a larger geographic footprint, including areas where it doesn’t operate brick-and-mortar stores.
So far, Kroger has announced 17 CFCs — ranging from 135,000 to 375,000 square feet — and six are now open. Kroger opened its first Ocado CFC, a 375,000-square-foot automated warehouse, or “shed,” in April 2021 in Monroe, Ohio. That was followed by 375,000-square-foot CFCs in Groveland, Fla., in June 2021 and in Forest Park, Ga., this past February and a 340,000-square-foot CFC in Pleasant Prairie, Wis., in June. Most recently, CFCs of 135,000 and 350,000 square feet went operational in Romulus, Mich., and Dallas, respectively. The Groveland locations marked the first CFC opening in a state where Kroger doesn’t have physical stores (except for one Harris Teeter store in Jacksonville, Fla.).
Upcoming Ocado CFCs, Kroger reported, include locations in Frederick, Md.; Phoenix; Charlotte, N.C.; Aurora, Colo.; the Cleveland region; the Pacific Northwest; and the Northeast. The retailer, too, has announced plans for two CFCs in Southern California and two more in Florida.
