Noah is a terrific young man who has committed himself to excelling at everything he does. Whether in school, on the sports field, or in the community, Noah has dedicated countless hours to performing his personal best and serving others. I would like to nominate Noah because I feel strongly he deserves the recognition. Noah has achieved academic excellence, he is a 4.0 GPA student, enrolled in the honors program with rigorous course work, and a member of all the honor societies (math, science, business, language, English, etc). Noah has excelled on the field of sports playing soccer, lacrosse, baseball, basketball, and track and field. He has been named Captain of his soccer team at club and high school level, received all-star honors, and was named scholar-athlete of the year. He has represented his High school in academic competitions and has been elected to leadership positions in several of his school clubs. Nevertheless, in the last few months, he has had to deal with some adverse events that have made him shift his belief system and as a parent, it is distressing to see your child confront head-on some of the hard facts of life. Learning that even when you prepare, you do all the right things, and you check all the boxes as they say, sometimes life isn't always fair. Our hope as parents is that we can guide our children through the challenges and even soften the pains of disappointment wherever possible. Nevertheless, part of the adjustment of entering adulthood is being resilient and persevering through the challenges. As a parent, I want him to be able to see what he has accomplished and recently it seems he has been unable to recognize all his achievements. Maybe being recognized by someone other than his parents may help him see what everyone else can see.

One thing I want everyone to know about Noah is his exceptional leadership skills remarkable resilience in the face of challenges and perseverance with great determination.

Bill Straub’s first win at New Milford will be the 50th of his career.
The veteran North Jersey football coach, who won a sectional title at Westwood in 2006 and did two stints at Fort Lee, was approved as the Knights' new head during Wednesday’s Board of Education meeting.
Straub said he was attracted to the New Milford community as a place he could lead and make a difference.
“I began my career at Westwood and I see a lot of similarities to there,” Straub said Thursday. “I have been lucky enough to be at some great places, but I think this is a challenge and that’s what my career has always been about.”
New Milford was a small-school power last decade, reaching the playoffs six times during an eight-year span from 2012-2019, and reaching a sectional final in 2012 and 2016. The school hasn’t won a sectional title since 1986.
The Knights reached the playoffs in 2023, losing to Hawthorne in the first round and finishing 3-6.
“I think an opportunity to come to a program with such a great history was too good to pass,” Straub said. “I want to be able to challenge myself and challenge the program to get back to where it was.”
The 49-year-old coached at Fort Lee from 2016 to 2018, then helped out at Ridgewood during the 2020 COVID season under interim coach Dave Cord at the time. Cord is now the head coach at Northern Highlands.
For the last three seasons, Straub has been coaching linebackers at Bergen Catholic (current Crusaders coach Vito Campanile followed Straub at Westwood in 2009). The Crusaders have been the No. 1 team in New Jersey each of those years.
“I was surrounded by some amazing kids, not just players,” Straub said. “I enjoyed it, but I felt at this time that I wanted to be a head coach again and do more. That’s what sort of led me to New Milford.”
Straub expects to remain in his current position as a physical education and driver's education teacher at Fort Lee. He will also remain as Fort Lee’s softball coach.
There will be a meeting Friday where Straub will be introduced to his new team. He’s optimistic the numbers in the program will be strong. His message will be about competing each day.
“That was something I’ve picked up that these kids will compete every day in everything they do and they will understand that is what life is about,” Straub said. “Football has taught so many people so many great lessons and ultimately they will become better people because they have been in this program.”

The popular Cliffside Park bakery and cafe, which opened in 2021, recently celebrated the grand opening of its new location in New Milford at 160 Henley Ave. on Monday, Jan. 15. The idea for the second location came when the owner of Crespo Hookah Grill in New Milford tried some of her baklava.
"He never had baklava," the owner said. "He said 'this is amazing. What is this?'
Alpar met with him and soon, Aleria Bakery had its new location, sharing the kitchen, and outdoor and indoor seating area with Crespo. The baklava has become one of the biggest attractions.
"It leads people through the door," Alpar said. "People have said our breakfast is one of the best breakfasts they have, because it's so fresh and healthy"
Aleria Bakery initially opened in 2021, after Alpar and Gozukucuk were working in a Mediterranean restaurant. Discovering they worked well together, they decided to look for their own place, even though restaurants were struggling during the pandemic.

"Everyone told us this is not the right time," Alpar said. "Everything is closing and you're opening. But we just found the place and it felt right. It had a warmth and atmosphere and it felt like home. We did not want to miss out on this."
Everything at Aleria is made on-site, including the bread, tarts, cookies and the popular breakfast plate, which features feta cheese, mozzarella cheese, tomato, cucumber, green olives, black olives, honey, cream, butter, jam, boiled egg, walnuts and menemen, which is tomatoes cooked with green and red pepper mixed scrambled egg with salt and black pepper.

Alpar said Mediterranean/Turkish cuisine has become popular because it offers a little bit of everything.
"It's a little more unique," Alpar said. "It's healthier than other cuisines."

Running a business in the place she calls home has been a really nice experience for Alpar. More than 400 people showed up for the grand opening last week.
"That was heartwarming," Alpar said. "It made all those sleepless nights worth it. It's great seeing friends from high school pop in."

Summer’s Fun, Kahagon, Oratam, TeenVenture, and Michikamau Camps are accredited by the American Camp Association, for going above and beyond to meet the highest of standards in camp operations.
Families pay last year’s camp rates if registered by Jan. 31.
Child care after camp is available with day camps, for an additional fee. Financial assistance is available through the Y.
