What Causes Menopause?

The most common reason for menopause is the natural decline in a female's reproductive hormones. However, menopause can also result from the following situations:

Oophorectomy: This surgery, which removes a woman's ovaries, causes immediate menopause. Symptoms and signs of menopause in this situation can be severe, as the hormonal changes happen abruptly.

Chemotherapy: Cancer treatments like chemotherapy can induce menopause quickly, causing symptoms to appear shortly after or even during treatment.

Ovarian Insufficiency: Also called premature ovarian failure, this condition is essentially premature menopause. It happens when a woman's ovaries quit functioning before the age of 40 and can stem from genetic factors and disease. Only 1% of women suffer from premature menopause, but HRT can help protect the heart, brain, and bones.

Depression

If you're a woman going through menopause and find that you have become increasingly depressed, you're not alone. It's estimated that 15% of women experience depression to some degree while going through menopause. What many women don't know is that depression can start during perimenopause, or the years leading up to menopause.

Depression can be hard to diagnose, especially during perimenopause and menopause. However, if you notice the following signs, it might be time to speak with a physician:

  • Mood Swings
  • Inappropriate Guilt
  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Too Much or Too Little Sleep
  • Lack of Interest in Life
  • Overwhelming Feelings

Remember, if you're experiencing depression, you're not weak or broken - you're going through a very regular emotional experience. The good news is that with proper treatment from your doctor, depression isn't a death sentence. And with HRT and anti-aging treatment for women, depression could be the catalyst you need to enjoy a new lease on life.

Hot Flashes

Hot flashes - they're one of the most well-known symptoms of menopause. Hot flashes are intense, sudden feelings of heat across a woman's upper body. Some last second, while others last minutes, making them incredibly inconvenient and uncomfortable for most women.

Symptoms of hot flashes include:

  • Sudden, Overwhelming Feeling of Heat
  • Anxiety
  • High Heart Rate
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness

Typically, hot flashes are caused by a lack of estrogen. Low estrogen levels negatively affect a woman's hypothalamus, the part of the brain that controls body temperature and appetite. Low estrogen levels cause the hypothalamus to incorrectly assume the body is too hot, dilating blood vessels to increase blood flow. Luckily, most women don't have to settle for the uncomfortable feelings that hot flashes cause. HRT treatments for women often stabilize hormones, lessening the effects of hot flashes and menopause in general.

Mood Swings

Mood swings are common occurrences for most people - quick shifts from happy to angry and back again, triggered by a specific event. And while many people experience mood swings, they are particularly common for women going through menopause. That's because, during menopause, the female's hormones are often imbalanced. Hormone imbalances and mood swings go hand-in-hand, resulting in frequent mood changes and even symptoms like insomnia.

The rate of production of estrogen, a hormone that fluctuates during menopause, largely determines the rate of production the hormone serotonin, which regulates mood, causing mood swings.

Luckily, HRT and anti-aging treatments in East Rutherford, NJ for women work wonders for mood swings by regulating hormone levels like estrogen. With normal hormone levels, women around the world are now learning that they don't have to settle for mood swings during menopause.

Weight Gain

Staying fit and healthy is hard for anyone living in modern America. However, for women with hormone imbalances during perimenopause or menopause, weight gain is even more serious. Luckily, HRT treatments for women coupled with a physician-led diet can help keep weight in check. But which hormones need to be regulated?

  • Estrogen: During menopause, estrogen levels are depleted. As such, the body must search for other sources of estrogen. Because estrogen is stored in fat, your body believes it should increase fat production during menopause. Estrogen also plays a big part in insulin resistance, which can make it even harder to lose weight and keep it off.
  • Progesterone: Progesterone levels are also depleted during menopause. Progesterone depletion causes bloating and water retention, while loss of testosterone limits the body's ability to burn calories.
  • Ongoing Stress: Stress makes our bodies think that food is hard to come by, putting our bodies in "survival mode". When this happens, cortisol production is altered. When cortisol timing changes, the energy in the bloodstream is diverted toward making fat. With chronic stress, this process repeatedly happens, causing extensive weight gain during menopause.

Low Libido

Lowered sexual desire - three words most men and women hate to hear. Unfortunately, for many women in perimenopausal and menopausal states, it's just a reality of life. Thankfully, today, HRT and anti-aging treatments East Rutherford, NJ can help women maintain a normal, healthy sex drive. But what causes low libido in women, especially as they get older?

The hormones responsible for low libido in women are progesterone, estrogen, and testosterone.

Progesterone production decreases during perimenopause, causing low sex drive in women. Lower progesterone production can also cause chronic fatigue, weight gain, and other symptoms. On the other hand, lower estrogen levels during menopause lead to vaginal dryness and even vaginal atrophy or loss of muscle tension.

Lastly, testosterone plays a role in lowered libido. And while testosterone is often grouped as a male hormone, it contributes to important health and regulatory functionality in women. A woman's testosterone serves to heighten sexual responses and enhances orgasms. When the ovaries are unable to produce sufficient levels of testosterone, it often results in a lowered sex drive.

Vaginal Dryness

Often uncomfortable and even painful, vaginal dryness is a serious problem for sexually active women. However, like hair loss in males, vaginal dryness is very common - almost 50% of women suffer from it during menopause.

Getting older is just a part of life, but that doesn't mean you have to settle for the side effects. HRT and anti-aging treatments for women correct vaginal dryness by re-balancing estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. When supplemented with diet and healthy living, your vagina's secretions are normalized, causing discomfort to recede.

Fibroids

Uterine fibroids - they're perhaps the least-known symptom of menopause and hormone imbalances in women. That's because these growths on the uterus are often symptom-free. Unfortunately, these growths can be cancerous, presenting a danger for women as they age.

Many women will have fibroids at some point. Because they're symptomless, they're usually found during routine doctor exams. Some women only get one or two, while others may have large clusters of fibroids. Because fibroids are usually caused by hormone imbalances, hysterectomies have been used as a solution, forcing women into early menopause.

Advances in HRT and anti-aging medicine for women give females a safer, non-surgical option without having to experience menopause early. At Global Life Rejuvenation, our expert physicians will implement a customized HRT program to stabilize your hormones and reduce the risk of cancerous fibroid growth.

Endometriosis

Endometriosis symptoms are much like the effects of PMS, and include pelvic pain, fatigue, cramping, and bloating. While doctors aren't entirely sure what causes this painful, uncomfortable condition, most agree that hormones - particularly xenoestrogens - play a factor.

Endometriosis symptoms are much like the effects of PMS and include pelvic pain, fatigue, cramping, and bloating. While doctors aren't entirely sure what causes this painful, uncomfortable condition, most agree that hormones - particularly xenoestrogens - play a factor.

Xenoestrogen is a hormone that is very similar to estrogen. Too much xenoestrogen is thought to stimulate endometrial tissue growth. HRT for women helps balance these hormones and, when used with a custom nutrition program, can provide relief for women across the U.S.

 Sermorelin East Rutherford, NJ

What is Sermorelin?

Sermorelin is a synthetic hormone peptide, like GHRH, which triggers the release of growth hormones. When used under the care of a qualified physician, Sermorelin can help you lose weight, increase your energy levels, and help you feel much younger.

 HRT East Rutherford, NJ

Benefits of Sermorelin

Human growth hormone (HGH) therapy has been used for years to treat hormone deficiencies. Unlike HGH, which directly replaces declining human growth hormone levels, Sermorelin addresses the underlying cause of decreased HGH, stimulating the pituitary gland naturally. This approach keeps the mechanisms of growth hormone production active.

  • Benefits of Sermorelin include:
  • Better Immune Function
  • Improved Physical Performance
  • More Growth Hormone Production
  • Less Body Fat
  • Build More Lean Muscle
  • Better Sleep
 Hormone Replacement East Rutherford, NJ

What is Ipamorelin?

Ipamorelin helps to release growth hormones in a person's body by mimicking a peptide called ghrelin. Ghrelin is one of three hormones which work together to regulate the growth hormone levels released by the pituitary gland. Because Ipamorelin stimulates the body to produce growth hormone, your body won't stop its natural growth hormone production, which occurs with synthetic HGH.

Ipamorelin causes growth hormone secretion that resembles natural release patterns rather than being constantly elevated from HGH. Because ipamorelin stimulates the natural production of growth hormone, our patients can use this treatment long-term with fewer health risks.

When there is an increased concentration of growth hormone by the pituitary gland, there are positive benefits to the body. Some benefits include:

  • Powerful Anti-Aging Properties
  • More Muscle Mass
  • Less Unsightly Body Fat
  • Deep, Restful Sleep
  • Increased Athletic Performance
  • More Energy
  • Less Recovery Time for Training Sessions and Injuries

Swifties get ready.

Pop mega-star Taylor Swift announced Tuesday morning her first concert tour in five years, called the Eras Tour, which will visit MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford May 26 and 27. Phoebe Bridgers and GAYLE will open the May 26 date, Bridgers and Gracie Abrams will open the May 27 date. Swift will also play Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia May 12 and 13.

“It’s a journey through all the musical eras of my career,” Swift said of the tour, on “Good Morning America” Tuesday. “I’m just really excited to look you guys in the eye and say ‘thank you for everything.’”

Like Bruce Springsteen tour dates, Swift is using the Ticketmaster Verified Fan method for tickets, meaning you must sign up ahead of time for a chance to receive a code for an opportunity to shop for tickets. Sign up here by Nov. 9 at 11:59 p.m. for a chance to receive a code. Pre-sale for fans who receive a code begins Tuesday Nov. 15 at 10 a.m. Pre-sale for Capital One cardholders begins Tuesday Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. General on sale is Friday, Nov. 18 at 10 a.m. on Ticketmaster.

The announcement follows Swift’s world-beating release of her 10th studio album, “Midnights,” which dropped Oct. 21 and is currently No. 1 in the U.S. and whose tracks occupy all top 10 spots on the Billboard Hot 100, a record.

Swift, 32, last played New Jersey on her dazzling Reputation tour, for three nights in 2018 — the first woman to play a trio of consecutive nights at the state’s largest venue. Swift also performed at the MTV Video Music Awards at Prudential Center in Newark in 2019 and appeared at the award show’s 2022 ceremony in August.

As Swift has released a mammoth six No. 1 albums since her last tour — “Lover” (2019), “Folklore” (2020), “Evermore” (2020), “Fearless” (Taylor’s Version) (2021), “Red” (Taylor’s Version) (2021), and “Midnights” — this will be the hottest New Jersey tour of 2023 and should sell out instantly. Odds of a third show being added “due to overwhelming demand,” as happened for the preceding Reputation Tour, are high.

Swift, a native of Wyomissing, Pa. — about an hour west of Philadelphia — has a rather deep connection to New Jersey, as she spent her childhood summers at her family’s Jersey Shore home in Stone Harbor.

The good news: East Rutherford-based Cambrex announced Thursday that it is building a 21,000-square-foot research & development facility at one site, doing a 21,000-square-foot renovation in another and adding a 9,000-square-foot expansion at a third.

The not-so-good news: The company’s growth is happening outside of New Jersey.

Cambrex, a leading global contract development and manufacturing organization that provides drug substance, drug product and analytical services across the entire drug lifecycle, is going big in the Midwest.

The new, 21,000-square-foot R&D facility is in Minneapolis, where it will expand the company’s capacity for small molecule development and manufacturing. The new facility, which will specialize in analytical and chemical development for pharmaceutical drug candidates, will add 40 new jobs over the next 2-3 years.

The facility will operate as an extension of Cambrex’s flagship facility in Charles City, Iowa — which is where the other two projects will be.

Cambrex will simultaneously launch a multiphase, 9,000-square-foot expansion and 21,000-square-foot renovation project in Charles City. The expansion will add a new quality control laboratory and administrative office space, which will bring 40 new jobs at the site. The expansive renovations will enhance and modernize the existing quality control and research and development facilities.

For those who question incentives, know this: The Iowa Economic Development Authority board awarded the company tax benefits and $300,000 in direct financial assistance to support the expansion through the state’s High Quality Jobs program.

To be clear: There is no expectation that the company will build manufacturing facilities here.

That being said, Cambrex CEO Thomas Loewald said the company is committed to the U.S.

“Our new facility in Minneapolis will double our analytical and chemical development footprint in the Midwest, providing clients with easy access to state-of-the-art capabilities and top scientific experts,” he said. “We continue to invest in our U.S.-based footprint to support the demand for high-quality (active pharmaceutical ingredient) development and manufacturing.”

This investment follows an earlier $50 million expansion in Charles City that was completed in the first quarter of 2022, establishing Cambrex as the largest, most advanced active pharmaceutical ingredient manufacturing site in the U.S.

The facility is located on a 45-acre property and produces a wide range of APIs and pharmaceutical intermediates, including highly potent molecules and controlled substances.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – When training camps began last July, not one of the 32 NFL teams invited Jaylon Smith to join them.

Smith was still jobless when the season began in September.

On Sept. 20, that changed. The Giants signed him to their practice squad. A linebacker, Smith played four games with two starts at the end of the 2021 season for the Giants after being released by both Dallas and Green Bay.

He was signed to the active roster on Oct. 1. Smith made his 2022 debut the following day against Chicago, his first start the next week vs. Green Bay in London and has now become one of the Giants' most valuable and versatile defensive players.

Smith's first two starts this season were at the Will, or weakside linebacker position. His last two were at the Mike, or middle linebacker.

"I've had success at Mike and Will in my career," said Smith, a six-year veteran. "Easy transition, it doesn't matter. Anything the coaches want from me, I'm going to do."

Smith's move has contributed to a significant upgrade of the run defense. In the Giants' first seven games, including four in which Smith played and two he started, the Giants surrendered an average of 144 yards a game, 5.7 yards a carry and eight runs of more than 20 yards. Since Smith moved inside, the numbers are 94 yards a game, 4.3 yards an attempt and one long run, a 44-yarder by Houston's Dameon Pierce last week.

Aside from that long run, two standout rookies – Seattle's Kenneth Walker III and Pierce – totaled 101 yards on 34 carries, a 3.0-yard average, in the Giants' last two games.

"Jaylon is a very conscientious player," inside linebackers coach John Egorugwu said. "He studies. He understands. Very, very smart. Physical. All those things that you need from your Mike in the run game, and he's done a good job of it.

"He lives to be physical from play to play. And he's smart. Perfectly diagnosed, you can see it. And he's a veteran. He's a guy that's played a lot of games and seen a lot of football in this league. He also provides that veteran leadership in our group."

What changes for Smith when he moves inside?

"Just the lens – the lens in which I see the game," he said. "Playing Will is more of an outside/in perspective, whereas at the Mike, you're right in the middle of it. I'm blessed to have a lot of experience at both. The more experience you get, the more you understand systems in the game overall. I'm just a student of the game."

Smith took it as a personal affront when the Baltimore Ravens gashed the Giants' defense for 211 rushing yards on Oct. 16 and then the Jacksonville Jaguars for 142. The opposition found the sledding much tougher when Smith stepped into the middle the following week in Seattle.

"Being a linebacker, it's your job to lead that charge in making sure that everybody's locked and loaded," Smith said. "The D-line knows what they're supposed to do, the back seven know what they're supposed to do. Playing that Mike position, you're kind of the quarterback of the defense. I take pride in it.

"Our attention to detail, our focus and our understanding of how important it is to stop the run, it's important. So, we got to continue to hound that."

The Giants obviously aren't announcing their plans for Sunday's home game against Detroit. But since the Lions are 11th in the NFL with 129.8 rushing yards a game and field two outstanding runners in D'Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams, chances are good Smith will again be the hub of the Giants' defense.

"I think (defensive coordinator) Wink (Martindale) says it all the time: this is a position-less defense," Egorugwu said. "We're constantly looking at all the linebacker positions and understanding that at any point in time, depending on what we're looking at going into that game plan, they can be playing a position that can help us or be effective that week."

"Wherever they put me out there, I'm going to make a difference," Smith said. "Having success in this league, I'm able to continue to show I'm still an elite player. So, that's the whole thing: we've got to come together as a team. It's all about the 'W.'"

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — Zach Wilson was ticked off three weeks ago after his worst game of the season.

The New York Jets’ second-year quarterback was intercepted three times in a 22-17 loss to New England, with Bill Belichick’s Patriots giving him fits all day.

Wilson was angry at himself for his mistakes, and it showed in some of his short postgame answers.

All eyes were on Wilson during the week leading up to the Jets’ next game, with many fans and reporters critical of last year’s No. 2 pick. Then, Wilson went out and had a solid performance while helping lead New York to a 20-17 win over Buffalo two weeks ago.

“I thought they were good emotions,” Wilson recalled Thursday. “I mean, I was frustrated. And I still believe nobody outside this building knows what they’re talking about, so.”

When a reporter quipped that he does, a smiling Wilson fired back with: “You do? Why’d you turn down a coaching position?”

Zing!

Wilson has shown some moxie during his 1 1/2 seasons in the NFL, a confidence that makes his teammates and coaches believe he can overcome adversity — and all that outside noise.

“This kid is very, very resilient,” offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur said. “He cares about winning football games, he cares about getting as good as he can possibly be, he cares about his teammates.

“It’s cliché, but I swear by it. And that’s why I believe in this kid so much, because he is extremely resilient. ... And that’s not going to change. No one is going to break him from that.”

Wilson showed as much in that stunning win over the Bills, during which he was an efficient 18 of 25 for 154 yards and one touchdown — and no interceptions.

“It’s a next play mentality,” Wilson said. “Taking the good and learning from the bad.”

Many questions remain about Wilson, especially as he prepares to face the Patriots again in New England on Sunday.

The Jets are 5-1 with Wilson as the starter this year, with the only loss that game against the Patriots. In his season debut at Pittsburgh in Week 4, he threw two interceptions but rallied New York from a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to win. In the four other wins during that span, Wilson has not been picked off. The Jets have focused on a run-heavy offense that’s predicated on Wilson being smart with the football and not forcing plays.

But that loss to New England remains a sticking point for Wilson’s many critics.

“We’re kind of holding him hostage to four, five plays that he had against New England, in my opinion, at least externally,” coach Robert Saleh said earlier this week. “Internally, I think everybody’s got a lot of faith in Zach to be able to run this offense and get the ball where it needs to get to and do it in an efficient manner.

“And I do think that if we do need to put it on his back and put it on our receivers’ backs and put it on the O-line to protect, I think we’re capable of doing that.”

Saleh reiterated that a few days later, saying that while Wilson made mistakes, they’re also “four or five teachable moments in my mind.” He added: “I think we’re missing the big picture on it, that’s all.”

The Jets are still in the process of developing and evaluating Wilson, and he’s being tested each week.

Meanwhile, New York is sitting at 6-3 and in prime position to end an 11-season playoff drought. A win in New England would put the Jets in first place in the AFC East.

“Excited because it’s another challenge, and this is a big divisional game for us, obviously,” Wilson said. “Not necessarily to feel like I have to prove anything of, ‘You know what, last game didn’t go great, I’ve got to do something different this time.’

“But just the progress of we won a big game last week and it’s on to the next and this is our next challenge. These guys are a great team, they do a great job defensively, so I am looking at it that way. I’m super excited for this game.”

Taylor has entered the chat.

After days of silence, Taylor Swift has finally addressed the dramatic saga that was the ticket drop for her upcoming "The Eras Tour" this week.

Swift said it is "excruciating for me to watch mistakes happen with no recourse."

"There are a multitude of reasons why people had such a hard time trying to get tickets and I'm trying to figure out how this situation can be improved moving forward," she wrote in an Instagram story. "I'm not going to make excuses for anyone because we asked them, multiple times, if they could handle this kind of demand and we were assured they could. It is truly amazing that 2.4 million people got tickets, but it really pisses me off that a lot of them feel like they went through several bear attacks to get them."

Swift's fans were left questioning after thousands were stuck in queues for hours, others lost their places in line due to technical glitches on Ticketmaster's site and inventory was left so low that general public sales were canceled Friday.

Swift acknowledged the many who were unable to get tickets, saying in her message "all I can say is my hope is to provide more opportunities for us to all get together and sing these songs."

In a blog post that no longer appears on their site, Ticketmaster sought to clarify the details behind the saga that had so many fans disappointed. The company did not respond to NBC Chicago's request for comment as to why the post was later taken down, however.

The site said that its "verified fan" registration program, designed to amplify real human accounts for ticketing and weed out bots, ultimately could not handle the traffic that came in.

The company noted that it invited 1.5 million people to participate in an on sale event for the upcoming stadium tour, which includes a stop in Chicago. Another 2 million so-called "verified fans" were put on a waiting list.

"Historically, working with Verified Fan invite codes has worked as we’ve been able to manage the volume coming into the site to shop for tickets. However, this time the staggering number of bot attacks as well as fans who didn’t have invite codes drove unprecedented traffic on our site, resulting in 3.5 billion total system requests – 4x our previous peak," the company said in the now-deleted post. "Never before has a Verified Fan on sale sparked so much attention – or uninvited volume. This disrupted the predictability and reliability that is the hallmark of our Verified Fan platform."

In response to the high demand, Ticketmaster said it "slowed down some sales and pushed back others" in an attempt to "stabilize the systems," but that ultimately led to long wait times for many fans.

In total, more than 2 million tickets were sold for Taylor’s shows on Tuesday – a number Ticketmaster said is "the most tickets ever sold for an artist in a single day."

The CEO of Liberty Media, Live Nation's largest shareholder, sought to defend the event promoter in an interview with CNBC.

"It's a function of Taylor Swift. The site was supposed to open up for 1.5 million verified Taylor Swift fans. We had 14 million people hit the site, including bots, which are not supposed to be there," Greg Maffei said on CNBC's "Squawk on the Street" Thursday.

Fans left empty-handed during the presale were then given another blow.

One day before tickets were set to become available to the general public, Ticketmaster abruptly canceled the event for the general public, citing "insufficient remaining ticket inventory."

Tickets are currently available on resale markets, but they're being accompanied by lofty price tags, ranging anywhere from $500 to more than $12,000.

Ticketmaster in its post acknowledged that it has much work to do to improve systems for such events.

Swift's 52-date stadium visit is slated to run March 17 through Aug. 9 of 2023 throughout the U.S. and is expected to expand to international dates, as well.

The tour announcement followed Swift's release of her 10th album, “Midnights."
